Thompson Falls, Montana
Thompson Falls is considered the “Banana Belt” of Montana. With a climate very similar to the Pacific Northwest, with less rain, the town and property lay in a broad valley surrounded by majestic mountains and virgin forests. This is the perfect jumping off point for exploring the Northwest. Weather in the area is unexpectedly mild, with the average daily temperature over 60 degrees April through October, Thompson Falls sports the most temperate weather in the state. Average summer temperatures hover in the high eighties, but can get into the nineties. In the winter, December and January are the coldest months, with highs averaging in the thirties and lows in the twenties. The town is located along state highway 200, about 100 miles west of Missoula in Northwest Montana. Thompson Falls is the county seat for Sanders County, which is geographically larger than the state of Rhode Island, yet does not have a single traffic light in the entire county. The population for the county averages approximately four square miles per resident. No traffic jams here! There are 1800 friendly residents in the town and many businesses to meet your needs. A modern grocery store is a short three minute drive from the property, and other businesses and services include two hardware stores, lumber yards, a pharmacy, a movie theater, quilt shop, clothing store, public library, courthouse, several restaurants and service stations, a tire store and a sporting goods/bait shop. Several physicians have practices in Thompson Falls. There is also a hospital in the town of Wild Horse Plains, about 20 miles to the east. Montana has no State Sales Tax, allowing you more to spend at the fresh produce market open during the warmer months.
Thompson Falls is right in the middle of some of the most wild and scenic country in North America. You are just a few miles from the Cabinet Mountain wilderness, and minutes from a wide array of outdoor activities. Hundreds of thousands of acres of National Forest are literally at your doorstep. It is not uncommon to see deer in your front yard. Favorite local pastimes include hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, boating, swimming, hiking, berry picking, to name just a few. There are numerous clubs and organizations in the community, for those who like to stay involved. This is the kind of place where everybody you meet on the highway waves and most residents rarely lock their homes. The area features many lakes and rivers for the sport fishing enthusiast. Major cities less than 2 hours away include Missoula and Kalispell, MT, Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene, ID. Thompson Falls is less than 3 hours away from Glacier National Park, and less than a day from Yellowstone National Park. There are numerous hot springs in the area. The community sponsors several celebrations and festivals throughout the year, and the annual county fair is held in nearby Wild Horse Plains.
