THE DEVELOPERS
Grant and Anne Denton grew up near Albuquerque, New Mexico, and bought a home in Northwestern Montana in 1999.
“For years, we had been looking for this type of place,” says Anne. “After growing up in the arid southwest, all the water, the trees, the wildlife looked like heaven.”
The appeal of the town of Thompson Falls became quickly apparent to the Denton’s.
“The people here are friendly, we don’t have the crime here like they have in the cities,” says Grant. “The air is clean, the roadways are clean, and the only traffic jams are caused by Canadian geese crossing the road with their chicks in the spring.”
Grant grew up in a construction family, and the couple built their first home together. Always interested in a project, they partnered with a local contractor to build a spec house on the river near town.
The first people to look at the house bought it.
“We were amazed the house sold so fast,” says Anne. “Zarach (the contractor) is hyper-particular about his work, and the quality shows. We are lucky to have him.”
After another house project, the couple decided they’d like to move on to something of larger scope.
“There was a need in the community for senior housing,” Anne says. “A lot of people who have lived out in the country are aging and finding it difficult to keep up with the maintenance on old houses and large tracts of land. We had a vision of a friendly community of quality, low-maintenance homes in town and near services. Our model alleviates the need for home and yard work, and frees up the homeowner’s time to enjoy fun activities in their retirement years. Originally we set out to meet a need in the community, but many of our buyers have come from other places. They are attracted to the small town atmosphere, the cleanliness of the community and the extremely low crime rate.”
The Denton’s are committed to the community and work closely with the Mayor and the City Council to ensure that their projects enhance the town and surrounding areas.
“This community is growing,” says Grant. “We have a chance here to do things right, to come up with a plan that matches the vision of the town as a whole. We focus on quality and value because we have a home in this area and plan to be around for a long time. We’re not out to make a quick buck and leave. Our customers are our neighbors, and most of our business is word of mouth.”
